Should I send graduation announcements university extended family and the family not to send Christmas cards?

I am graduating with my degree next month and am having a dilemma about what to do with my graduation announcements. Am I supposed to send announcements to family members that I have not spoken in years, as my sister, my uncles and grandmother in another state? My grandfather passed away 4 years ago and since then about my extended family (uncles, aunts, etc.) have begun to lose contact. My uncle who used to be very close to stopped talking for no reason. I can send Christmas cards to him and his wife each year and over the last three years have not returned. Should I worry about sending a notice and invitation to my graduation? I had a baby 3 weeks ago and the most useful gifts I received packages of diapers, really they are very valuable when you have to change a baby diaper 10 + times a day (per child). If you want to get something a little more "personal" of diapers, why not buy a bond for babies to have their picture taken, and receive a printout of the image. You could see if I could find a company that is willing to travel to home mothers to take pictures. However, this option is considerably more expensive.
